Route dossier
Keep the route visual before reading the mechanics.
Country context, document questions, source trail, and brief handoff stay visible before the dense rule sections begin.

Route context
Keep United Kingdom context visible while reading Graduate Visa as a route file, not a standalone promise.

Evidence file
Separate income, sponsor, capital, family, timing, and renewal evidence before interpreting the route.

Source trail
gov.uk anchors the route facts, while field-level source notes stay available for review.

Brief handoff
Carry official ukvi fee baseline and open questions into a profile-specific prep report.
Profile review depends on work mode, credentials, and long-term settlement goals.
Average total cycle based on current pack assumptions, not a service-time promise.
This route is endorsement or prize-led rather than salary-gated.
The surrounding country pack tracks a 6-year citizenship horizon.
Pathway briefing board
Use the route page to prepare a cleaner research brief.
This page should help you separate stable public route facts from profile-dependent assumptions before you spend time optimizing for the wrong pathway.
Start with the official route rule, then mark what still depends on the applicant.
52 pathway fields are organized around gov.uk, so the page can support source reading without turning the route into a personal conclusion.
Organize evidence by category before interpreting strength.
Use this route profile to prepare income, sponsor, capital, family, timing, and renewal facts as separate lanes instead of treating the pathway summary as a filing plan.
Keep fees, timing, and status horizon in the same brief.
Official UKVI Fee Baseline is tracked at £937, with adjacent costs kept separate from profile evidence. United Kingdom planning should also preserve renewal and long-term residence questions for a professional conversation.
Base Requirements
Profile Evidence
Typical baseline: Bachelor education, 0+ years of relevant experience, and applicant age usually within 18-40.
Language or Communication Threshold
Satisfied through qualifying UK study: No separate universal test.
Financial Readiness
Applicants still need enough runway to support filing, settlement, and documentary preparation.
Passport or identity document
Use the current passport or identity document to anchor names, expiry dates, family links, and travel history questions.
Route-specific document
Verify this route-specific document against the official checklist before treating the file as complete.
Process & Mechanics
Step 1
Initial route setup and evidence preparation • Typical duration 1-4 weeks.
Step 2
Application submission and review • Typical duration 1-2 weeks.
Step 3
Adjudication, compliance checks, and next-step readiness • Typical duration 4-8 weeks.
Graduate Criteria Gate
Graduate is an in-country post-study route. Applicants must currently hold Student or Tier 4 permission, apply before that permission expires, and rely on their education provider having reported successful course completion to the Home Office. That means the filing point is provider reporting, not the formal graduation ceremony or certificate date. The provider also needs a track record of compliance.
Study-Time Gate
Graduate route planning is also tied to how much of the course was actually studied in the UK. Current GOV.UK guidance usually expects at least 12 months in the UK if the course was longer than 12 months, and the full course length in the UK if the course was shorter than 12 months. Student Union Sabbatical Officers can still use this route, but only if they completed a recognized UK course immediately before the current Student permission began.
Graduate Route Timing
The standard Graduate grant is currently 2 years for applications made before 2027-01-01, then 18 months from that date onward. Doctoral graduates are tracked separately at 3 years. Graduate decisions are usually issued within about 8 weeks.
Work & Study Limits
Graduate holders can work in most jobs, look for work, and be self-employed. They cannot work as professional sportspeople. There is no access to public funds. Study is only allowed where the new course would not itself use the Student route. ATAS may still be required for sensitive subjects.
Dependant Continuity
Graduate does not reopen family sponsorship from scratch. Dependants usually need to have already held Student-route dependant permission to continue on this route. A child born in the UK during the current Student stay can also be added as a dependant. Existing dependant status can still be evidenced with a BRP for 18 months after the printed expiry date. If a sponsor covered a dependant's living costs in the last 12 months, that dependant also needs a provider consent letter.
Bridge Reality
Graduate is not a settlement route and cannot itself be extended. Its main value is as a bridge to a later switch, such as Skilled Worker. Applicants can stay in the UK while waiting for the decision, but travel outside the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man before decision will withdraw the application.

Which gov.uk facts are fixed public rules, and which ones still depend on the applicant profile?

Analytical Tradeoffs
Advantages
United Kingdom currently tracks a 6-year citizenship horizon.
Considerations
Tax residency design can materially affect the real value of the route after arrival.
Document timing, appointments, and execution quality can stretch the effective timeline.
Next step
Do not stop at the route page. Turn it into profile-specific questions.
Review this route against income, family, timeline, evidence prep, tax exposure, and long-term residence goals before treating it as your likely path.
